Report:Went to the Gannons for the first time , accompanied by Neil , who used to fish there as a boy in the fifties

. The weather was great, couldnt believe it when i hit Greystones, the sun just appeared and it stayed clear and mild for the session , only raining as i hit the m50 on the way home

. We parked the cars and walked down to the railway tracks , but a fence blocked our way across

. We had to hop into the little river, lucky we had waterproofs on, and make our way under the railway bridge onto the beach. Tricky going when you are carrying stuff in both arms, very slippery underfoot. Had a bit of a lucky escape when the bank collapsed under me as i got out of the river, but no harm done. We got set up and cast out but found there was a bit of weed (lots) as we retrieved. Neil lost 2 rigs to this and snags, but had a dab in amongst the weed on one cast. The fishing was very slow, with baits coming back untouched for the most part, but we had our usual craic and banter to help pass the time. We tried varying distances but results were the same. I had a dab, then a double of dabs, a double of whiting , and another whiting near the end. All fish were taken on lug tipped with squid. Neil had his coleman lantern, we havent had it for a good few sessions, and we were taken aback by the light it gave out

.Having heard reports from this spot, i was delighted to give it a go, and though the results werent great, i'll definitely try again. We were packed up better on the way back and were able to negotiate the river better as we both had one hand free to keep our balance.I had to keep the headlight trained on the ground as there was plenty of doggie doodah on the track back to the cars, so beware,,, but at least the river stopped the ba$ta;ds from pi$$ing on our gear. Might be the last session before Christmas so Happy Christmas to everyone on the site and thanks to all those who gave me a hand out in my first year fishing,
