ennereilly( the crap part!!) 20-12-08

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me and big mick

Duration:4pm-9.30pm

Tide:in and then out,,,high at about 5pm???

Weather:mild,dry, breezy southerlies

Bait:lug,mack,squid

Rigs:flappers

Results:lots of whiting,,,,,1 five bearded rockling.

Report: Headed down the N11 at a crawl , listening to Big Mick going on about Racing cars,,,engines,,chassis,, cars,,,price of fuel,,,tyres,,NCT Test,,Aviation Fuel(for the racing cars  ),,,did i say cars already???. Then came the "wonder who'll catch the first fish??", question that i'd been waiting on  ."Thats a dangerous question for you to ask Mick,,,remember what happened last time you said that",i replied (Dave 40---Mick 4).That quietened him down a bit for a while   . As we left the N11 and hit the back roads he sped up   . Got to the empty beach and set up. As usual Mick was set up quick as a flash. His rod is like a magicians cane,,,,it just comes together as if by magic when he flicks it out. He got the first fish,,,then the second, third, fourth and fifth,,,,all whiting,,,before i came back at him with a mini whiting blitz. It was a truly beautiful evening for December,,,mild and dry ,,later on the sky was filled with stars,,,great to be out. Now if only we had a few decent fish,,,but i suppose you cant have it all   . The breeze was making it difficult to detect bites unless you held the rod in your hand all the time. I fished 2 rods with Big Mick fishing 3 and i got a small 5 bearded rockling on the small rod in close. This was the highlight of the night   .Mick had a birdsnest early on then a massive tangle with his 3 rods which took a while to sort out  . Once i heard Mick asking how much longer was i staying i knew the game was up and i started to pack away my stuff. I hadnt been out in over 2 weeks so i enjoyed the session and would have stayed longer but we had enough of the whiting bashing (o.k. Corbyeire,,,,,youre right,,they are a pest   ) and left. It ended up 18-9 to Dave,,,2 species to Dave, Mick 1 species, biggest fish Dave, smallest fish Dave,,,,all of which i kept reminding Mick all the way home

It must have been slow fishing by the looks of what you were reading in the newspaper before catching that rockling!! Standing on a beach for long hours.....
List 2010. fish

List 2011: less fish

2012: less fish again,

2013: even less fish.

Yea it was great to get back alright Don ,,kind of addictive ,this fishing lark,,,isnt it?. The hands are ok now,,using a chainsaw in work for the last 2 weeks slowed down the healing process, maybe its the gloves in work???. My Dad has worse cracks in his hands so it looks like i've got it in my gene pool

I guess the places I have been fishing at the moment arn't too good for whiting - I think I have only caught about three or four so far this winter   Maybe I will head over to Youghal before the end of the year just for a whiting bashing session.

Tomorrow night I might head out for one last bass session before Christmas if I can get the report I am working on finished by tomorrow evening

Merry Christmas to you too Dave.
