Duration:9pm till 2am
Tide:Dropping
Weather:Calm and mild with a few drops of rain
Bait:Frozen Peeler Crabs, Macks, Lug, Squid and Razor
Rigs: 2 & 3 hook paters, running ledger and pennel rigs
Results: My first Dab! tons of Whiting and Rockling.
Report: My brother and myself thought we would hit Wicklow for a few hours and see if we could nail a codling. We set up at 9 on the light house side with two rods each. The fishing was very slow and after an hour we both started to catch Whiting, but none over the 20cm mark. And we both managed to even fowl hook a couple too!! Still haven't caught one over the 30cm size yet either. Then we were getting tons of Rockling but again all small. Just after mid night I pulled in my first Dab and that made the evening worth while. I was pretty happy to add a species to my list even it it was right at the end of the year. Plus that's two flatties on my own flat fish rigs in my last two outings. Makes it all the sweeter
As the clock struck 2 we were both feeling the cold and decided to pack up and hit the road. We were disappointed about no codling but sure we have the New Year to try for them. Sad to see a lot of rubbish been left at the pier. If you seen the state of the mess we made in no time, yet it took us all of five minutes to tidy it up.
Possibly my last session this year so happy Christmas to everybody and thank you to all those who have helped and advised me over the last few months. This site truly is the best source of information for anybody and with people willing to help you just cant go wrong.
