20/12/08 Shore Thing..........Kilkeel Co.down

#1 Post by marshpike »

People: Me

Duration: 16:00 - 19:30

Species: 2 Flounder, 6 x 3 beaerded Rockling (inc PB), 9 Coalies

Weight: n/a

Weather: Brisk SW

Method: 3 hook Flapper

Bait: Mourne Baits Mackerel

Comments: Been dying to get out since I bought my new Metal Gear Beach caster, High tide was at 6pm and there was an on shore gale blowing hard all week which gave me the perfect opportunity. The only problem, I've been dosed with the flu since Friday. NOt feeling the best I took a couple of flu capsules and an energy drink and headed off as I new I'd have to wait about two weeks for the tides to come good again. Caught a Coalie on my first cast which was good considering I hadn;t shore fished since late Aug.

It went quiet for about 20 min and my head was spinning a bit when I started to think I was mad in the head , so I picked up one of my rods to start to pack up when my second rod bellowed over in true Cod like fashion but unfortuynately even though she slack lined the fish didn't hook up. Intregad by this I recast both rods and started getting into action, with some really good 3 bearded rockling and to my surprise I managed a couple of flounder which was a first from this mark.

Hoping for another thumping bite to come along I fished for 3.5hrs but it didn't happen, the Coalies started to come thick and fast and it just became too much to handle in the condition I was in so I had to pack up and headed home. That's the first time I had to pack up due to catchin too many.

All in all it was good to get back on the shore although I shouldn't have went out, ther strange thing was I only caught one fish on the new rod due to bite detection which was a bit worrying however its the lightest beachcaster I've ever handled which is super to cast. I can see a long relationship forming, good to have a no hassle change.........
