tope from the shore up the shannon

Just wondering is there any tope been caught up the shannon estury at the moment as i might that a trip up there over the christmas hoildays and if so what bait are they taking and at what time of day and tide . PMs would be very grateful

ask georoide if there are any about he is the man for the shannon just make sure were ever you pick you have room to manouver, great fighting fish esp from the shore

To get that kind of info from Gearoid you will have to do what I did… kidnap him, :)

The best time of the year for Tope is from late spring till Oct and any deep water channels from Kildysert or Foynes right up to Loop head and Beal strand or Beal point.

You need somewhere there is a good tail race or a headland with a good run of water slack water can be the best time to start fishign for the tope.

From Dusk onwards is a good time to fish for the tope in the Shannon

Running ledgers with a big tope hook and whole mackerel or even a side fillet would do the job and dont forget the wire trace

I've heard of them being seen and caught in poulnasherry bay if that help's excuse the spelling if it's wrong on the venue,but from my experience tope are around from sping to late summer hope this helps.

Only ever heard of pups been caught around poulnasharry. Deep water marks with strong tides will produce pups in the estuary but some of the lads have had them up to 6lbs regularly on certain marks with fresh mackerel

funny you ask mate im working on it but i really cant give too much away at this stage..big project for me this year..got info a mark..you know who you are :wink:
sorry cant say ask me again in the summer!!!
pups all over the place in august more of em than dogs but all 2lbs...got bitten of years ago on an upper mark..i think it was a tope neway was like i was tied to a car moving away speed..then the snood went :cry:
