Bray Co. Wicklow 17/12/2008

#1 Post by dfella25 »

People: Me,my brother (Gerry) and my Yankee cousin Rossa!!!!!

Duration: 2:30pm till 7:30pm

Tide: High and dropping

Weather: Mild and windy

Bait: Frozen Mack, Fresh Lug, Frozen Black Lug, and Sand eels

Rigs: Two Hook pater's and running ledgers

Results: Me flatfish (think Flounder) and two small rockling, Brother couple of small rockling and one big one and a scorpion fish (we think), Rossa 27 crabs

Report: Been a while since we have been out due to sick daughter, pregnant wife and the usual Christmas bustle of work. Anyway we decided to head to Bray for a few hours and wet our dried out lines. We fished the pier in Bray the Dublin side and set up down the end. It must have been well over the hour before I pulled in the flatie on mack. Not 100% sure if its a Dab or Flounder but it was very smooth skin to touch. We had a few small rockling between us and the crab's were out in force. Then my brother was ground baiting the side of the pier with a load of small sand eels the guy in the tackle shop gave us. He dropped down a sand eel lug bait and hooked into a big rockling over 30cm then a while later got a scorpion fish (again not 100%). Then nothing great, mostly crabs and another couple of small rockling.

After that we decided to pack up and then we realised that we had caught no whiting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kinda miss them when their not around

If I have the names of the fish wrong or the species please let me know. Oh and if you know my misses don't mention the good Christmas T-towel!!!!!!!! It was the first one to hand on my way out.

If it was smooth then it wasn't a Dab, they're rough all over and also have a pronounced curve on their lateral line over the pectoral fin. It looks like a flounder to me, they have smooth skin throughout with a ridge of small nodules which run along the lateral line all the way up to the head.

Been to Bry twice in the last two weeks with all manner of baits,Blanked both times and it seemed like of an episode of deadliest catch with the amount of crab,I thought Id at least get few whiting myself. So thats a good seesion, fairplay. So is that tea rtowel relegated ot the bottom drawer the other 11 months of the year ;)

My brother got that one and he is about 3 up on me for species now for 2008

Cormdogg the crab's were a nightmare, and had the baits stripped on each cast befre any fish could find them!
