Wicklow Pier 15/12/08

#1 Post by shamoo0804 »

People: Myself and Corbyeire

Duration: Not too sure  6.30 ish to 11ish I think

Tide: LW at approx 18.30

Weather: Fine, flat calm sea

Bait: Rag, Lug, Mack, Squid, Sandeel, Peeler

Rigs: Flappers, Pulleys, Running ledger, Slider float rig :?

Results: Codling, Whiting, Dabs, Rockling

Report:

Steady nights fishing although it started slow enough, decided on this mark to get us out of the predicted cold wind, worked a treat for the main part.

Brian was first in with a few whiting, I found the crabs to be a real pest. Fishface showed up for a walk along the pier, no fishing gear with him though, then a friend of his showed up to fish (forgotten his name already, but he was a nice chap).

Had a conger bait down myself most of the night, but that didnt get touched at all.

Saw a few herring swimming near the surface, they were coming out of the harbour as the tide filled, Brian put on a sliding float rig to see could he tempt any of them out, but had no luck.

The other angler next to us did get a herring, it was foul hooked through the tail fin

I moved a little round the corner of the pier with 2 things in mind, to get out of the cooling breeze, and to hopefully get a few more fish having only had one rockling and a few whiting....It worked a treat, got a few dabs, including a last cast of a whiting and 2 dabs, a small codling, and many more whiting.

Nothing but crabs and pesky whiting touched the big baits we both had out at distance.

Pleasant enough nights fishing, with plenty of bait left over for tonight......not sure if thats a good thing

i hear you on the bait leftover for tonight front - at least you had a few species

the whiting no i dont want to catch them anymore - they can sense it at this stage - so of course thats all i get

only thing of interest really was the few herring that were shoaling about

had 1 decent whiting that was over 30 and the rest tiddlers in the main

hopefully wont get only whiting tonight

was a decent enough night for it alright - very calm at times and not bitterly cold for once
