Ennereilly, 13 -December-2008, Minimum Thread Mix*

People: Me
Duration:8:30 pm -12:30 am
Tide: rising, turning (http://www.irishtimes.com/weather/tides.html), full moon
Weather: freezing (-4 on temp)
Bait: lug
Result: Bass, codling, whiting

These big tides are normally not that good for fishing as they tear the hell out of the beach, but decided to try it anyway after getting me bait from Courtown SAC.

Sure enough there was a big surf thumping the shore, but first cast, I felt a huge bite transmitted down the line - I thought -but it turned out to be a codling of about 15 cms only. The rest of the session saw another similar codling, 3 mini-bass, a couple of whiting in the 20 cm range and a few smaller ones. Have to say looks like the hordes of the usual pin-whiting have either left, put on weight, or didn't like that tide.

It was below zero (-4 on the temp). Haven't seen the field in front of my usual spot as white with frost since 1997, and with the fullmoon didn't need any lights to get back across the fields. Foreshore was frozen solid. Ended after midnight. Should be good next week.

* No SUVs, buckets of seawater, tripods, beachbuddies, tripods, flasks of tea, fires, sandwiches, or girl scouts were used in the making of this report.

What part of the beech is best for fishing, I normally fish where the little car park is which has never really been that productive for me.

Great report BTW.

further north. i agree - that part of the beach is not great for me either. i think the north beach is far superior.

or you can try and cut across the dunes further up, but there's electric fences to be negotiated, so test it out in the daylight first.
