Ask on neil mackellow web site. I asked this a while back and he gave me a number (lost) but I never looked into it further. Let me know how you get on.

Went to Penn and they said....

"We can supply you with a spare spool.
Spool alone costs £22, or £32 complete with spool bearings and fittings.
Please advise CC details, and we will mail you the parts.
Ref. polarity : we recommend (left to right) positive / negative / positive / negative.

what would happen if,,,,,,IF

the mags were in negative / positive / negative / positive /

or negative / negative / positive / / positive /

or any other comp-bo??

would the reel run in reverse

I know this does not help the Q about spare spool.

I am thinking of getting a spare 525gs £70, if things blow on the shore tis quicker to change reel than spool.
Or as has happen to me on Achill island having to clean and repair a reel in camp site tolets, true
