road trip to the deise and cork lands

#1 Post by eric »

People:myself, shamoo, al, and mb.3

Duration:all day

Tide:low water at 12.30

Weather:glorious flat calm weather even quite mild!!

Bait:crab, lug and mack

Rigs:clip down loops and flappers

Results:flounder to 39cm smallest was 35cm, whiting up to 37cm, dabs to 31cm smallest was 27cm (plenty of em), coalies, poor cod, pouting and codling.

Report:headed off in pursuit of the codling to waterford, but it was decided to hit the slob bank first in youghal first to temp some of the flounders out, needless to say we got a few but not the numbers we where hoping for, the whiting came out to feed here aswell and not to any great size at all so after a few hours we left and headed off to the golden arches for brunch. refueled, we headed off to our next mark for a shot at the codling, first cast for mark resulted with a small codling, hopes where high of a few bigger ones turning up but it was not to be, must the fishing was great for me wit almost a fish a cast, the average dab close to 30cm the whiting turning up in numbers with a few in the mid thirties turning up too, managed three micro codling on the last three cast, but the cod failed to show!!

Well done, nice haul of fish there.
Youghal can throw up some good size flounder alright but cod seem to be very scarse so far.
