East Cork Beach, 02/12/08

#1 Post by thescotsman »

People: me, petekd, basslover1

Duration: 20:30 - 23:00

Tide: HW around 20:10

Weather: drizzly, cold

Bait: razor, rag, lug, mackerel

Rigs: 3 hook flappers, 3/0 pulleys

Results: me - 1 shore rockling, pete - 1 flounder, Kevin - nothing unfortuantely

Report: Headed out with high hopes what with all these East Cork and West Waterford bass being caught at the moment and we wanted to make sure Kevin got himself a fish as he's new to bait fishing. So with good reports off this beach recently we thought we were on to a winner.
Of course the curse of the newbie struck again, whenever we take a novice out with us, confident that we'll get him some fish in a place where we know there are loads of fish, it always ends up that we catch nothing. And so it proved again
Anyway, hopefully Kevin got a few pointers with regards to rigs etc and where to fish (or not as the case may be) and at least he got to see a couple of fish and got a couple of bites, Pete leaving it till last cast with his flounder, my rockling coming early on. Delighted with the rockling as that's species 33 of the year, so it wasn't a complete disaster.
2019 Species (8): Whiting, Coalfish, Dogfish, Bass, Coalfish, Dab, Lesser Spined Sea Scorpion, 5 Bearded Rockling

Yes, don't blame you, it has happened a few times now, so we must be a jinx to newbies :?

Hi Brian, yes Kevin said he was talking to someone before we got there and as the stories match I'd say it was definitely you. That was us coming in as you were leaving alright.
