bangor harbour Co Down sunday 30th november

#1 Post by Al and Jordan »

People: just me

Duration: 5.30pm - 8pm

Tide: low then turning back in

Weather: 15mph wind, no rain but very cold

Bait: just rag

Rigs: 3 hook flapper

Results: 29 whiting (biggest 24cm) 2 pouting

Report: i got up at 5am to go and dig some rag, but only stuck it out an hour before my hands were frozen :? :? :? :? :? . i managed to get about a pound and a half of them which were fairly deep with the highest concentration of them 2ft down in the clay     not fun when you're on your own in the dark. i decided to stay local and headed for bangor with low tide around 6pm. i had all the intentions of fishing it out until around midnight, but the whiting scupperd any ides of that by hitting my baits before the lead had even hit the sea bed    they were ravenous wee buggers. a rethink was needed as i was going to fish my usual 2 rods. but with the whiting hitting my baits before i could even wind in my slack line from casting made that impossible    . so i packed one rod away and just fished on. it was crazy, i was pulling them in, in twos and threes at a time. you were only limited on how many of em you could catch by how quickly you could rebait and get back out again :D :D :D :D :D :D :D this kinda fishing soon had a detremental toll on my bait supplies as i was rapidly running low on worms :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( i even started to break up the worms and only use a half on each hook, but still they came in numbers. the last 2 casts brought in whiting and pouting which was nice. another species. but in typical form, as another species finally came on the feed i had ran out of bait      do'nt get me wrong i'm not complaning it was great crack, frantic and short lived, but still great crack    one of my shortest but most productive sessions yet. 31 fish in 2 1/2 hours

Good Sesh AnJ, I started Shore angling on Bangor Harbour, Used to have whiting matches with my mate, Usually won with 50 or 60 fish!

They're small but they're fun!!!

ask your uncle drew  he knows where i dig, but keep it to yourself. i've already had to chase off a half dozen commercial diggers off that stretch of beach        it's one thing to go dig a bit of bait for yourself or your mates. but when 6 guys appear with 10 gallon drums digging out a stretch of beach leaving it looking like the somme in 1916, thats just taking the piss

i know, i feel the same way. it was great crack. i've had a few cross words with guys in the past who killed all the whiting they were catching calling them " the rats of the sea ". i guess some people are just plain ignorant
