GBSAC Open Comp, Lettergesh, Galway, 30-11-08

#1 Post by Bradan »

People:7 brave souls

Duration:1100-1500

Tide:LT ~ 1230

Weather: Fuppin freezing! Northerly winds blowing straight down from snow capped hills... mostly dry though

Bait: Lug, mack

Rigs: 3 hook flappers

Results:Flounder and turbot

Report:
Last comp of the year, and with injuries, laziness, people going to other comps, and the freezing weather, only 7 hardy anglers braved the element. Conditions were perfect, nice surf, no weed. Fishing was slow enough, Conor (Saltydog) kicked off with a nice flounder, I bagged one of 22cm, another angler had one of 26. Brian then landed a double including a 31cm fish. A few undersize turbot made an appearance, I had a double of flounder, then Conor stole the show on the last cast with a treble shot of turbot, including 2 counters.
Well done to Conor, pulled it out of the bag. Think its his first win, and we'll have to watch him next year!
Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

Fair play for sticking the weather lads. I missed out on my Friday night fishing and was set to go last night but chickened out because of the cold.

Cheers lads was like fishing in the Alps with all the snow capped mountains around us. It was hard on Brian / corbyeire who had been catching consistantly through out and was just pipped at the end as i hit a purple patch landing 5 fish in the last 45 mins. A very big congrats to Kevin / Bradan on the winning the Master Angler very well done.

have to say i hate it when people keep telling you you have a comp in the bag - as the inevitable happened

conor in fairness said he would be happy with a turbot after he got the 1st flounder and sure enough it showed in the last hour - then another flounder - and a triple shot of turbot on the last cast

i kept thinking i needed another one to get me clear in the last hour - and then sickened with the last cast - still amazing to see 3 turbot on one rig - and if it had to be anybody at least it was yourself conor

congrats to yourself and kevin
