Waterford Codling 29-Nov-08

#1 Post by Danny M. »

People:Myself, Carpets, Pat & Dave

Duration: 6pm - 2am

Tide:rise and fall

Weather:0 - -2 (cold.com)

Bait:Live; Crab, Lug. Frozen Crab, Razor & Mack

Rigs:Pennel Pulleys & 2 hook flapper

Results:Codling, Pollock, Coalies and whiting

Report:Took a trip to Waterford to try a new mark for something different, we found a couple of excellent looking marks for Bass (well have to investigate these at a later date 8) !). We opted for a steep shingle storm beach that we found on our journey. We fished it for the last of the rise an a couple hours of the fall. Results were dissapointing. Myself and Carpets had a couple of fish at distance but nothing worth talking about. So at around 11pm we decided to hit a different mark in the area.

Arrived on location, I gave my first cast 'SKY' which produced a Codling 2 1/2lb which took a large peeler on 4/0 Pennel, quiet then for a while with Carpets and Dave picking up a couple of whiting close in.
Tide was almoost stripped out at this stage, Pat lobbed out a frozen Crab and got hammerd by a 4lb Codling, a great fight out of the small fish, fought like a fish double its weight , headbanging and diving for sport. Another lob out by pat Produced another Codling 3lb 6ozs.

That was the main action points of the night really, some great looking coastline down in Waterford though, amazing what you can find whan you wonder off the beaten track !

It was cold last night, it was very cold last night, it was freezing last night ....I love the cold

I have pictures , but my camera is the back of Carpets Van.
Il stick them up later.

Have you had any codling in Wexford yet? Heading for morriscastle or courtown next weekend.

Not bad sizes for the cod lads. Hard old night there fair play for sticking it so late.
