I sometimes float-fish with a mackeral strip lightly hooked on the end of an Aberdeen. Fish slip the strip off without being hooked. If I put a glow grub half-way up the hook I can push it down onto the mackeral strip to hold it gently against the curved hook end without hiding the point. Doing this seems to catch more. I know I could use bait elastic but a tied-down mac strip is less life-like.

Re: Glow grub
I'm not too sure what a glow worm is either. Is this what you are talking about?

Re: Glow grub
A glow grub is the first one in the picture-reply above - soft, rubbery stuff that clings to the hook when you push the hook or line through it.

Re: Glow grub
i use the glow grubs on all my flapper rigs and from what i've found it they are deadly for the coalies. always do a slow reterive and the coalies just jump at them with or without bait. well thats what they are like for me.

Re: Glow grub
Was out last night and a guy fishing near me was using one, great job for seeing when your rig has landed in the dark, he caught fek all tho! Which is surprising because I was getting plagued with small coalies. I was using a two hook flapper, with lumi beads on one of the snoods, and it was the hook with the beads that was getting nailed every time, regardless of wether it was rag or mack on the hook!

Re: Glow grub
I reckon those grubs could be used as a bait stop, with the glowing of the grub should attract fish, next time im getting sime rig supplies I must invest in a packet.

Re: Glow grub
You can also buy soft rubber glow beads that will slide up over the hook and work in much the same way. Hiro do glow pink ones (expensive) and Dega do the normal glow ones (got 20 for just over a euro). The Quick Bead system on the Dega website looks very interesting http://www.dega-fishing.com too.
