LOST IN MAYO ( then Lacken pier) 27/11

Bait:fresh Mac sand eel and squid

Results:pouting,whiting, rockling and a nice pollack




Report:

Left Sligo at 1.30ish with the intention of fishing Benwee head got lost at Killalla village and ended up near Bellmullet. Turned round drove back the way i had come on a horrible road in rainy windy conditions with mad truck drivers carrying logs. next time i have a map of an area i wont leave it on the kitchen table thinking i will remember the way.

saw a sign post for Lacken and turned down towards it found the pier and set up and fished from the end of the pier.

first cast lost my flapper rig set back up with the flapper in close and pulley far out.
Got all the fish in close to the pier on Mac and eel,rockling first then pouting followed by whiting and the pollock last.
Lost all my pulley rigs at distance only had one bite on the pulley and missed that as my wife was on the phone.

I will fish this area again but will bring the map, had nice evening really as i hadn't been out for a while just wish i could have started fishing earlier and hadn't got so lost.

Hi Yorkshire man

There is a bad snag about sixty yards out from the corner of the pier, say facing around 1-2 pm - that probably accounted for most of your lost gear. Quite a few other snags at distance too including a small reef that runs into the land north of the pier. Not my favourite spot.

Off to Limerick early for work, might try a few lures at Lahincg on the way back, HW around 5 pm, light NNW wind might bring up a surf and a decent sized tide too...

nice little session mind.... surprised you got so many fish near the pier....
