waterfoot beach (again) 21.11.2008

#1 Post by Al and Jordan »

People: me and jordan

Duration: 1pm - 8pm

Tide: low to high

Weather: 35mph winds and occasional rain

Bait: just ragworm

Rigs: 3 hook flappers

Results: ME 15 flounder to 27cm, 2 coalfish, 5 whiting and 8 pollock to 1lb 8oz. JORDAN 13 flounder to 30cm, 8 coalfish, 6 pollock and 6 whiting

Report: after yesterdays trip jordan was chomping at the bit to get out and land his first ever flattie. so we returned to the same mark i fished yesterday to get jordan his first ever flat fish. the weather was'nt just as bad as yesterday but still fairly uncomfortable     we gave up watching for bites and just wound in every 10 minutes to see if anything was attached to the hooks      . it was slow going at first with nothing about until around 3pm when jordan landed his first flattie, a nice flounder measuring 30 cm 8) 8) 8) another milestone in his 2008 species hunt :P :P . then all went quiet until 4.30pm when we lost the light and bites came thick and fast. i've noticed this a lot fishing different marks on the east coast recently. as soon as the light fades on an incoming tide the fish seem to appear in good numbers :? :? :? :| :| :| .it must be the same all over. we were pulling in fish in 2s and 3s with me getting 3 different fish on each cast. jordan had'nt just got his first flattie, he got 13 in the end and was made up :P :P :P . by 7.30pm we were nearly out of bait and our lantern was almost out of gas, and the thought of trying to pack away on the beach in pitch darkness was'nt too appealing. added to that we had our mental mutt cody charging about in the backround making a general nuisance of herself to contend with     . but we did have a good laugh at her checking out our fish before we returned them to the sea. she just sort of stood there wimpering at the surf wondering where the heck we were pulling these things up from. i could'nt get over how well this mark had treated us on only our second trip. i'll have to speak nicely to ronald and see if he'll reveal his antrim beach for our next outing and mabey jordan can increase his species count with a few different kinds of flatties

The young lad looks well pleased in the pic with that flattie ( a smile on him the size of the mersey tunnel [I'm giving away my origin with a comment like that] ), I presume that was his 1st :?: :!:

Give him my congrats, and may it be the 1st of many more to come

cheers for all the replies lads, jordan was trying all summer to get a flattie to no avail. so he was over the moon with this trip. it even justifyed him breaking into the fish dance        i must get him into a junior comp soon, he'd love that. as he likes to keep reminding me that he's whiped me on our last lot of outings      which is fair enough when you consider i was fishing 2 rods and him only 1         . and dave, you're spot on about the lug casts    . as the tide pushed us up the beach we fished on top of them, and this was obvously where the fish were     and cheers everyone else for the tips and advice     duely noted.
