Donegal & Sligo, 15th & 16th nov 08

#1 Post by stevecrow74 »

People:myself and saltydog

Duration: started fishing around 6pm saturday.. stopped about 6:30pm sunday

Tide: various

Weather: calm and mild with slight drizzle for 1 hr saturday night.. sunday was sunny and warm until the sun went down

Bait:fishbaits

Rigs:various

Results:pollock, coalfish, whiting, pouting, poor cod, dab, flounder, turbot, shore rockling, long spined sea scorpion, (i know I'm forgetting something)

Report: headed up to a west Donegal mark that i hadn't been to for over 10yrs (the last time i was there i got 14 species in one day).. decided to try the rock mark first, but due to lack of day light it was hard to find it so we opted to the nearest safest looking rocks..
to much perseverance i only got two pollock, nice size though.. after a few hours we moved back to the pier.. with rods set for distance and spinning rods for close work it wasn't long before the bites arrived, no monsters caught but a good session was had.. finished up before the sun came up so we could get a few hours sleep.. drove and got breakfast in killybegs and then advanced to Rosnolagh.. with sunny skies and light breeze i know flatties were in order of the day.. i was first up with a nice turbot and wasnt long followed by salty with a flounder of 34cm (?).. i missed what looked like a good fish by the way the rod shook... half way through the session i was about to cast and i could hear an aeroplane flying, but couldnt see it due to the sun's brightness.. so i cast... if i had cats about 2 seconds later there would be a stunt bi-plane with a 4oz pyramid lead in its fuselage   it came way too close for comfort.. as did a second plane later and even people driving cars in the suds up and down the beach :? :? :? :? :? due to hunger we moved on and got more food in a bar in some village in sligo.. then we drove further on to Inniscrone pier to see if we could add a few extra species to the list. but it dropped very cold fast and weed was plaguing every cast so we called it a day...

Good crack alright must remember to bring a sleeping bag next time :?
Plenty of fish up in Donegal / Sligo beautiful part of the world too, think Steve had 40+ myself 30+ Steve finished up with 10 species with 7 for myself. Was nice to fish a few new marks and there's so many spots up around there with bags of potential will be definatley heading up that way again soon enough for more. Steve you forgot to mention the halfwit in the feista who was driving along the shoreline at Rossknowlagh in the water and nearly went through our lines!! Miracle he didn't get stuck.

opps didn't see that when i read it first time  ..... Since i downloaded explorere 8 i've notice it doesn't fully load everything on a web page i.e. missing txt photos etc then if you refresh the page you see a whole pile of stuff that wasn't there before?? Don't know if it's just my laptop or not but very frustrating.

Ok, nice one. Never tried it.

Have you ever tried Fintra beach (Just outside killybegs on Teelin road)?
