waterfoot pier co.antrim 12/11/2008

#1 Post by jonny gilbert »

People:me and a friend

Duration:12pm to 4pm

Tide:falling

Weather:dd calm but cold

Bait: rag, mac, sandeel and peeler crab
dd
Rigs:3 hook flappers, 3 hook clipped

Results:coalies, whiting and codling

Report:fished waterfoot pier since if was my 1st ady off in ages and needed a break from the missus and the wee man. we arrived at the pier at 11.45am and in the water by 12pm. as soon as the baits hit the water fish on. my first cast produced a triple shot of coalies averaging between 20cm and 27cm. my mate was pretty much the same as sson as the baits hit the water fish on. it was like this the whole day with whiting and codling all averaging the same at 20cm to 27cm. the best fish i had was a whiting of 37cm which is the best whiting i've ever had in the north anyway if fell to rag tipped with sandeel at distance. but sayin that all the fish where caught at around 30 yards from the peir. we ended up running out of bait by 4pm (3lb of rag, 5 mac, 1 pack of peeler crab and 2 packs of sandeels.) so me headed on home. wasn't too bad it was a shame there was no good coalies about but thats fishin

at first i though it was a big coalie until looked at it again. but i also heard a rumor the nite before i fished the pier there was a 15lb bullhuss cuaght there but i have my doubts. anyone else here that rumor??? i also heard of some more good whiting over the 30cm marks being caught on the beach. my mate andy was up at the pier yesterday mornin and had a load of weavers so anyone fishing red bay area if your gettin loads of pin whiting check them as weavers can be easily mistaken for small whiting.
