Report:fished lecanvey pier louisburgh, in a south west gale, large swells,very cold, could not fish of the end of the pier due to weed being everywhere.but in the shelter of the pier it was just about fishable,water was very dirty,so we decided to try for flounder with thin mack and herring strips for scent,very close to the pier, worked a treat with 13 flounder from 25cm to 32cm,two small pollock about 2-3lb, and three coalies up to 4 1/4 lb.We had the long rods out but caught nothing but doggies! Now i like doggies,they have save many a blank day,so im not complaining!!sorry there are no pics,dont have a digital camara yet,but the kids have been given my shopping list for christmas!

Fair play, tough spot when large swells come in,the weed can swamp your line. Had a rough day last time I was there and only resulted in two doggies,Never thought to try in closer to the pier.So thats a great session.

thanks cormdogg, it was a tough session all right,but fishing close to the habour wall in those conditions has worked for us before, it was extremly rough,and the water was very coloured,and weedy, have you tried altapheebera bay out near corraun in achill recently? were out there two weeks ago and had a wicked session,saying that,we had rag!!

Never tried that side of the bay,Ill give it a lash next time Im out that way, How's the fishing in December!

that particular bay fishes very well this time of year,have had coalies up to 6lb,pollock up to 8lb,we have had huss,smoothhounds flounder,dabs and ray(only one) mack,wrasse,and of course doggies,only fishes well two hours up to high tide and two hours on the ebb, after that you are wasting your time!!

Nice fishing there doggie3131,i wouldnt mind a few "small" pollock between 2-3 lbs , they would be monsters compared to the ones i've been catching . Its a great site alright, you'll find it very addictive ,,, and the guys here are sound,,, have helped me a lot.
