Roney’s point 12/11/08
People: me
Duration: 20.00 to 24.00
Tide: High Tide @ 19.30
Weather: No wind, no rain and bright night
Bait: Snake size Rag and frozen mackerel
Rigs: 2 hook rig
Results: whiting and dab
Report:
I decided to go fishing to Ennereilly after the good session that I had on Monday but unfortunately I left the office late and I could not go to buy the bait on the way home.
Changed plan, I knew that there is a tackle shop in Courtown that it’s open until 21.00 so that was my only hope to get some bait and go fishing.
Arrived at the shop around 19.30, there was only 1 bag left of rag and no lug. The guy in the shop told me that he had some frozen mackerel and I bought them too. I asked how many worms were in the bag and he told me that there were 20 big ones. They are 1 euro more expensive than the ones that I usually buy but you have to see the size of them! They are like snakes!
Left the shop and went to Roney’s point, when I arrived there I noticed a black car with the lights on (also the one inside the car were on too), I thought that it was a couple of youngsters hanging out but when I passed the car while I was walking down to the beach I noticed that it was empty.
I thought that maybe another fisherman had forgotten the lights on and I proceed to the beach.
Arrived at the beach and I didn’t see anybody else there.
I started fishing with the rag on the top hook and mac on the bottom one.
Within 15 minutes I had already caught a few whiting, it looked like a promising night.
The monotony of the whiting was broke by some dabs. All the fish were caught with the rag, the mac was untouched.
At around 21.00 I saw a guy coming down to the beach with the torch on his hand; maybe another fisherman. He came over to me and asked me if when I arrived at the beach the black car was already there. I told him that it was there and that the lights were on.
He told me that the car belonged to his wife and that she was missing. He also told me that the wife suffered with depression and he was afraid that she has done something stupid.
I had a petrol lantern with me; therefore I went with him along the beach to look for the missing lady. We looked around for a while and then we went back to the plaice were I was fishing. He told me that he was going to call his son to help out with researches.
The son arrived after a few minutes and they continued scanning the beach for some signs of the missing wife/mother. In the next hour more people arrived at the beach to extend the search.
Around 23.00 I saw the husband of the missing wife and he told me that he called the Garda and that they were coming there with the dogs. I had another look around the beach myself just to help out but nothing. I packed my stuff at around 24.00 to go home, at that stage there were around 20 people plus the Garda looking for the missing person.
I really hope that they managed to find her sound and well and nothing bad happened to her.
If anyone that read this forum and live around that area has some info/news I appreciated to let me know.

Welcome to the site Diego nice fishing the other night in Ennerielly and another decent session at Roney shouldn't be to long before some codling start showing there.
Thats very unfortunate about the Woman who was missing i hope she was found safe and well. A colleague of mine recently lost his wife to depression when she threw herself in the river Corrib. Aware are an Irish based charity who help people with depression and their families. If anyone wants to make a contribution to Aware you can do so by clicking on this link http://www.aware.ie/donations/donations.asp

Re: Roney’s point 12/11/08
You didnt miss too much on Ennerielly last night, Lots of dogs and whiting on all baits. Even leaving a small whiting on the hook resulted in dogs, Eventually got hungry so went to Wicklow for chips and fished the pier for a couple of hours, Very quiet there with just one dog and some small stuff.
Back to Bosnia on Monday.

Third sad search in six weeks
BALLYCANEW WOMAN MISSING OFF RONEY POINT
Wednesday November 19 2008
THE COASTLINE of North Wexford is once again the focus of a search for a missing person, after the car belonging to Ballycanew woman Una Hughes was found at Roney Point last Wednesday night.
Tragically, this is the third time a person has been reported missing in the North Wexford coastal area in the six weeks since the beginning of October.
Una (56), a mother of three, failed to return home on Wednesday evening, and was reported missing after her Peugeot car was found parked at the beach at Roney at 7.55 p.m.
As concern for her safety grew, members of Buffers Alley GAA Club joined family members in a search which began immediately. Courtown RNLI Lifeboat was called to assist in the search at 12.30 a.m. and Courtown Coastguard and the local Gardai joined the search on the shore and the Irish Coastguard Search and Rescue helicopter also combed the coastline.
Her husband David, and her sons David, James and Richard have been based at Roney beach for the past week as they combed the coastline, with the assistance of family, friends and neighbours. The Coastguard and Lifeboat services have also helped in the search. A family friend said this week they have found great comfort from the assistance of the community, and are grateful for all those who have helped with the search.
Gardai are asking anyone with information on Ms. Hughes'whereabouts is asked to contact Gorey Garda Station on (053) 9430690. She was last seen wearing a purple and gold Buffers Alley top.

Oh my god! I really hoped that she was going to be found sound and well.
Thanks JD for the info.

Re: Roney’s point 12/11/08
Was in Roney point today, working... (25/11/08).
Still no news unfortunately - the Client I was with, told me the GAA team are taking shifts, day & night so that there are 20 people on the beach at all times.
I knew nothing about this until today, as I enquired why there were so many cars down on the beach (thought there might be a comp
)- and then I read your post here tonight
Apparently the Gardai reckon her body may only surface by today or tomorrow (rather than the usual 7 days), because of the lower sea temperatures this time of year. They are also afraid that if it does surface and washes in, it may wash back out again on the falling tide - so thats why the vigil is being maintained on the beach.
Apparently the poor woman has tried this a few times before, hence the Husband knowing where to look... Tragic circumstances. I really do hope she's found, so they can grieve their great loss.
The guy who went off courtown a few weeks back, was found out by the Tuskar Rock, a serious distance away, (spotted by a passenger on the ferry into Rosslare), so I guess her body could have travelled a considerable distance, depending on the winds & tide....
(Nice fishin, by the way...
