Report:had 20 rag and some mack leftover from wicklow harbour last night so finished work early(had an early start

) and headed to one of my favourite spots, greystones. It was raining as i passed Bray but wasnt too bad in Greystones when i arrived. I put on the waterproofs and there were a few heavy showers but on the whole it was quite nice, mild with southerly breezes. I fished 2 rods, one at distance, 60-80 yds

, with a 2 hook flapper, and the smaller rod in close at the base of the rocks with a mini rig consisting of a 1 ounce lead with a size 2 hook attached to a 12 inch snood.
As usual the small rod produced the goods first with a pollock of about 25 cms, followed by a corkwing wrasse, which gave a good scrap on the light line. I caught 3 wrasse altogether , all on rag, and without the measuring stick i would have thought i got the same one 3 times

, but they were all slightly different sizes

. I was happy out with the wrasse as i particularly like them , then i got a blenny which gave a much softer bite and 2 scorpion fish, one quite chunky.
This was turning into a bit of a species hunt with every cast turning up something different

. As the tide was rising it was easier to fish in close and i didnt lose any tackle this time!.I started to get nibbles on the distance rod and got another pollock, then a double of a dab and a whiting. Another couple of small whiting followed and then another double of a pouting and a whiting, all going for the mackeral as the rag were gone. The fishing died down about 6 after the last double but i stayed on for another hour trying to beat the traffic (great excuse for staying a bit longer

), and getting a hermit crab on the last cast. He took the biggest hook i had, a 3/0 on a pulley penell which was supposed to catch a passing monster

. Using him for bait flashed across my mind for a second but i guess i'm just not that kind of guy

so i released him back into the deep

. I didnt want to push my luck any further so i packed up and headed for home happy with 7 species, i think my best species result ever

. 2 good sessions in 2 days so i guess i cant put off painting the back room any longer now
