Castlerock 18/10/08

#1 Post by JAMMYJOEY »

People: Me and Jonny

Duration: 17:00 to 21:40

Tide: High water 21:20

Weather:dd Dry and quite calm

Bait: Mackeral, rag and sandeel
dd
Rigs: Single hook clipped

Results: 1 Flounder each

Report: We decided to hit the north coast as the tides looked perfect in the hope of maybe picking up a bass.

Went straight to Castlerock and had a look. We spoke to 2 guy's on the beach to see if anything was happening. They said they had been there about 3 hours with no joy. Things didn't look promising but it just looked fishy so we made our way over the rocks on the left of the beach and found a likely looking spot.

Set the first rod up and whacked a cast out. Was hardly in the water 2 minutes when i started getting knocks. Let it develope and was very pleased to land a very nice flounder on my first cast.

Sadly that was my only fish. Jonny managed one about the size of a fiver and that was his only fish.

As the tide really started to make it was hard to keep the bait in the water and some of the waves coming in were pretty dangerous so we decided as the baits were coming back untouched that a move might be in order.

We moved back round to Portrush to have a look. None of the rock marks looked fishable and so we had a look at the harbour. It was pretty much the same. Jonny had a piss at the end of the harbour and got soaked by a huge wave breaking over it! Thankfully i had seen it coming and made a quick exit.

There was a serious surf and swell running which made fishing impossible on most marks. It was very dissapointing as it just looked like it should fish well.

We'll definately be going back when the tide and hopefully weather is right as the place looks like it should be ideal for bass.

Cheers guys. It was amazing watching the breakers come in. They started from about 3-400 yards out and they were big!

Thought about east coast but the tide didn't suit the time we were heading out and i always like to fish either side of high water.

On a plus point i got a new Imax rod rest and it's def gucci kit. Highly recomended.
