Beauty of an 'noon for fishin' at Greystones.
Arrived: 11:40am Depart: 2:25
Tide: rising, calm high tide c.2:18
Conditions: slightly overcast; occasional sunny break; warm
Bait: 2-day Rag, Lug, Re-Frozen Mac, Frogen Mussel
Dave kindly took this photo of Corkscrew Wrasse...my first at this regular, sporadic mark.
Caught on rag approx. 20m out from rock platform.
Plenty of fishy folk around ...that article in Irish Angler probably teasin' them to try their luck here.
Tried North Beach again last night; trickly and variable; one doggy, but gotta get further up towards 'extreme' cliffs, approahcing Bray Head and railway tunnels; hope to post report over the autumn. Ventured onto rare Bray Hd. marks last year, commando style ..worth it for the craic, but would recommend

Dave, howdya' getta one..any more Scorpions or Wrasse or even late macs?!

I was talking to a guy today who said the very north end of the north beach in greystones is very rough ground.

He advised me that the cleanest spot on that beach is around where the arch used to be (if you know that), if not you'll see it easy enough. The construction company have a load of huge concrete blocks out on the beach there.

Nice wrasse Aidan, you saved me putting up a report . I stayed till 6 o clock and got 1 corkwing wrasse, 3 scorpion fish,and 1 kind of blenny that the lads here will I.D.( please let it be a new species ),all on the spinning rod in close at the base of the rocks. On the beachcaster ,at distance of about 100 yds, i got a nice fat flounder and a medium whiting. Bait was mack fillets , ragworms,and squid, with the rag being the killer bait. I lost a couple of rigs in close in the rough ground, but thems the breaks ,as they say. It was a beaut of an afternoon, and i saw a guy nearer the harbour catch a nice red gurnard, approx 35cms. Congrats on the corkwing wrasse, nice colours eh? I'd still be there only i ran out of bait

I thought so at first, but i couldnt spot the "d for dab" on the lateral? line. If i'm in doubt ,thats what i usually look for. It was a fair sized dab if it was one, fairly fat too.

for once i totally agree with eric, who writes these thing do they even fish the venues?

ah well i caught one some how over the 17 years ive been fishing it
its a real pitty some people read these so called reports or guides and look forward to what there going to catch,
and eyes that def a dab plus a nice one from there to well done

Would have to say the same the 16-20cm section would give the clue.
The fastest way to spot the difference between a dab and a flounder is to rub the skin from the tail to the head.
The flounder skin is slimey and has a rough section on the lateral line Where the dabs skin is course all over and no rough markings on the lateral line
