Galway beach, 15-10-08

#1 Post by Bradan »

People:Me, Vinny, Neil (forum lurker)

Duration:2000-2230

Tide:Dropping from high

Weather:Breezy and showery at the start, clearing to a beautiful moonlit night

Bait:Lug, mack
dd
Rigs: 3 hook flapper

Results:Me 10 flounder averaging 28cm, the lads

Report:
Arrived just before 8 and set up at the top of the steps, there was a nice surf running. First cast missed a rattling bite, baits were ok so cast out again. While this was out I set up the 2nd rod. By the time I had this cast out the 1st rod was rattling again, reeled in a nice flounder of about 28cm. Rebaited and cast out again, noticed the rod tip on the other rod bouncing, pulled in a double, bigger fish was 32cm.
Rebaited and cast out this rod, a few minutes later the rod tip on the other rod was bouncing around, I let it develop this time and pulled in a treble shot, all counters. At this stage I decided just to fish one rod, it was just too hectic. Pulled in another single as Neil arrived and I let him use the other rod that was already set up.
Another single fish, then it went quiet for a while. There was a good bit of weed in the water at this stage and we were pulling in clumps of it, Vinny did a good job removing most of it!
The tide reached the flat part of the beach and was dropping pretty fast, and with the promise of a cup of tea and a warm bed  I was keen to finish up. Last cast I pulled in a double shot again, with the bigger fish about 32cm.
Cracking session for me, 10 flounder, every one of them a counter, the kind of fishing you dream about for a competition! No idea why the lads weren't catching, same baits and rigs in the same area. That's fishing i guess...
Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!
