People:me

Duration:1330-1945

Tide:hw @ 1730

Weather:initially heavy showers, f5/6 sw, eased to f2/3sw and clear

Bait:frozen mack

Rigs:pulleys

Results:10huss- 3lbs, 3lbs, 3.9lbs, 4.6lbs, 6.9lbs, 7.9lbs, 8.4lbs, 8lbs, 9.3lbs, 7.8lbs
7 dogs to 3.1lbs,
7pollack to 3.9lbs

Report:

just as i set up a torrential shower of rain passed over. wondering if maby i had made the wrong choice i decided to sit it out. 5 minutes later it had passed and thasnkfully my new bib and brace had kept me bone dry.

fishing was slow initially with one a few dogs and small pollack showing for the first 2 hours. while i was spinning for pollack i noticed a small tap in one of the huss rods, thinking it was noting i left it be, 2 minutes later the rod arched over, before straightening and whatever had taken my bait running towards me. i wound furiously and struck. whatever it was did not want to play ball and stayed deep. this felt a very good fish and more like a conger than a huss. this is where it all went wrong as when i began to gain some ground there was a sickening snapping sensation with my gut feeling telling me my hook length had parted being prooven right on closer inspection. what ever it was had gone through 100lb hard mono quite easily.with this i baited up again and for the next 2 hours i had bites wvery hour from huss and dogs. initially these huss were of the smaller size but as the tide pushed their size increased.

after not having much success with the pollack on the carp rod i put on a short 50lb hooklength and a 6/0 circle hook and a chunk of mackeral. i cast it into the bay and left it free line with the baitrunner on. no more than 5 minutes had passed when i had a really good run. just tightening the line saw the carp rod hoop over. a couple of short runs later i had the best huss of the session at 9.3lbs. good fun i must admit and definately a technique i will be trying again for them. i also had 3 dogs and 2 pollack on the same technique. each of them had the circle hook lodged in the corner of their mouth

qas darkness fell i was met with a wonderful full moon which lit up the fishing area like daylight. i had a few more bits with one 7lber dropping as i went to lift it and i landed one more just a shade under 8lbs. after this my bait ran out and i called it a night. definately one of m best sessions of the year.

also the last huss i had coughed up the remains of a fish about 12 inches long. it was definately a species of rockling/rockling although the head of it had a serious set of dentures so makes me think it was a ling
