Where to fish?

#1 Post by Bob »

Hey - Im taking a week off work at the start of Feb to go fishing. While I could always stay around my locality I would much prefer to pack up the tent and spend a few days on the road. Can anyone suggest some good spots - id really love to bag a ray of some description, was thinking the shannon estuary, but any suggestions for any species would be welcome! All my local beaches are producing nothing more than flounder and very small codling :(

The Estuary isn't as good as is made out though a good day can still be got out of it. Speaking to many experienced anglers the fish population in the estuary has taken a hammering in last few years. Febuary here is mostly about catch smaller fish such as whiting and dabs but they tend to be larger than the east coast. You'd have a good chance at conger and carrigaholt would be the best spot for ray but its more a spring mark so late Febuary or onto into march Might be better.
