Salmon returns to Switzerland after 50 years

A salmon has been caught in Switzerland for the first time in 50 years after a swim of perhaps 600 miles, raising hopes the fish may soon find its way back to the landlocked country in greater numbers, officials said today.

Angler Thomas Wanner snagged the Atlantic salmon on Sunday, according to Switzerland’s environment ministry.

Great news! There is a good chance this fish is of Irish origin too - a large portion of the ova used in the Rhine salmon restoration efforts have been Irish ova...
Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

that's some journey for a fish when you think of the elevation which it has to go up just think of the amount of weirs and waterfalls it had to swim up

Fishes live in the sea, as men do a-land; the great ones eat up the little ones.

Read the story, it was photographed and released. Probably mandatory catch-and-release there.

So he was! Lets hope he didnt die of lonliness before he got a chance to spawn. A distinct possibility on that river id imagine.
