Report:Couldnt sit at home on such a nice afternoon so headed to greystones for a spin with the missus. Sea was rough enough with large waves crashing onto the rocks where i usually fish. Seeing another angler set up i decided to give it a bash for a while, after all , there was no point in wasting the bait  , thats what i told her   . Got talking to the other lad, Mark, and we set up at the railings nearest the harbour as my usual spot was getting a drenching from the large waves breaking over the rocks. . It was hard enough to get a bait out and grip leads were needed to hold bottom. After an hour or so Mark landed what we think was a turbot, i'm sure you'll do the honours and i.d. it :D . He did really well to land it considering the conditions. First one i,ve seen caught here too. It was difficult to see the bites, or else it would have been if i'd have gotten any   . I eventually moved to "my spot" when the tide turned in the hope of getting a bite, after all, this spot had always been good to me and wouldnt let me down now ,would it :?: :? . 2 hours later and with the baits still being left untouched, i wasn't too sure  The missus came back to collect me and asked how many i'd caught :?: .I felt like a kid asking to stay out another 10 minutes   , i still had some bait left and there was no point in wasting it! She went off for another half hour( i didnt tell her that the leftover bait was given to me by Mark   ). Things werent improved when a gang of teenagers who had been dicing with the waves all afternoon decided to haunt me, then started throwing stones near me. Being used to this in work (i work in the county council 8) ), i took a photo of them, and put my mobile up to my mouth to call the imaginary police( THIS USUALLY WORKS!!) and they were gone in seconds. If they're the local yobbos, lucky Greystones    . I was still laughing when i got a nibble on the rod, a dip, dip, dip, flattie bite. Next thing would be landing it with the rough seas, but it stayed on the hook long enough to be landed, and i took a pic and returned it. Happy days. I packed up and was ready waiting like the good boy that i am when the missus returned. A nice afternoon out and another 5 hours that i would have spent watching telly if i hadnt taken up fishing a year ago.

Water colour has been very bad around there ever since that building work started, have had poor results this year with the lures, there seems to be a big slick of muddy water running all along, whats it like down the southbeach in the last few weeks?, does it stretch that far?

I've had pretty decent results there this year, usually a few fish about, mostly flats, whiting, doggies, some pollock also, best of all a bass a few weeks ago. Have seen plenty of pollock taken off the rocks to the south of the steps. Cant speak for the southbeach as ive never fished it, must give it a try sometime. Didnt fancy leaving the car in the carpark and walking through the arch. :?

Nice to get a fish in those conditions. Lovely little turbot also.
South beach has been very hit and miss this year for me. Doggies and whiting being the main stay. Eyeziz spot is way more productive with much better variety. In fact I think we should put a plaque on the bench above "Eyeziz Spot-scumbags beware" ;)

Fair play to you for sticking it out in those rough conditions not to mention the yobbos throwing rocks at you

It was a lovely sunny day down south on Sunday too - It was a nice afternoon to be out but the tides weren't great - low tide around 4.00 pm (I should have got up at the crack of dawn) I fished a small beach that I only fished once before. Fished it over low tide not really expecting anything although there was a good surf rolling in. As the tide started to rise I got a dogfish but then it became unfishable. I kept snagging huge clumps of kelp including thick kelp stalks with rocks attached that must have been torn up in the strong winds the night before. So in the end I had to give up just when I thought there might be a chance of a few fish. But at least it wasn't a blank due to the old reliable dogfish :) :)

Hi Rockhunter,,,yobbos werent too bad really,,as yobbos go  ,, kept me entertained for the afternoon watching the idiots getting drenched by the waves. :D :D . I was fishing in courtown on friday as the rescue services searched up and down the coastline for the body of a poor young guy. I was thinking of his family as these idiots diced with death on high, slippery rocks in a large swell. Anyways ,,,,glad you got a doggie, theyve been scarce enough lately for me,,, and i've also caught some of those kelpy rockfish   .
