Killiney 05/10/08

#1 Post by Dave »

People:Me

Duration:3:00-6:00

Tide:High at about 3:45

Weather:Sunny

Bait:Mackerel and squid

Rigs:3 hook flapper with circle hooks and floaty beads on the top snood.

Results:1 Pollock, 1 Coalfish, 3 mackerel

Report:

I wanted to try using circle hooks again so I rigged a 3 hook flapper with some and decided to make the most of the fine weather and head out to Killiney. I wasn't expecting much but the first cast had barely hit the water when I got the first Mackerel. It wasn't long before the rod was nearly pulled off the tripod and I reeled in a nice pollock of about 2lbs. I was very impressed with the circle hooks, it was my first time to use them properly and every fish was lip hooked.

Nice Fishing Dave :) Must invest in some of those circle hooks myself, looking at your photos they seem to do exactly what it says on the tin

Yeah they seem to alright, I'm still experimenting with them but so far I'm very impressed. From the point of view of catch and release they certainly make sense, although they are tricky to fish worm baits with.
