cushendun beach and rocks

#1 Post by MC »

People: me, Liam and merv

Date :4-10-08

Venue:cushendun

Duration: about 11.55am to 7.30pm

Tide:in at 3pm then fished rocks for outgoing tide

Weather:wet, windy, wet, did i say wet

Bait:rag, sandeel, mackerel

Rigs:3 hook flapper, 2 hook loop and float

Results:Liam 1 flounder and a rockling, Merv 1 flounder and 3 wrasse, me 2 flounde and 2 wrasse

Report:
I wanted to fish garron point or another rock mark, but after Liam phoned and said how bad they where we decided to try a beach mark, cushendun was sheltherd from the high winds, so i met the lads there. I arrive about 12 and merv already had a flounder, so quickly set up my gear in the hope of a fish or two. It was very slow going and i was glad i had circle hooks on the flapper rig, hooked a small flounder and broke in the k2 i had got second hand.(trying a new way of match fishing) with the others getting very little and the rain getting wetter, we decided to wait until after high tide to head over to the rocks for wrasse. Just after high water i got another flounder and as we were packing up Liam finally landed one too. So off we went to the rocks armed with floats and rag, a few bites were missed before merv landed a nice wrasse of about a 1lb, my line parted, but used Liams spinner to hook the float and land it, which also had a small wrasse on it, my first of the year. As the tide dropped we move further out to rock which became accessable, on which merv manage 2 more wrasse and i got another small one. A local cat was watching us and then made off with the sandeels, merv gave chase and got most of them back. The light was starting to fade and Liam had yet to get a fish on the float, not for the want of trying, but the jammy sod hooked a rockling on the last cast.

It has been a while since i have been out fishing and even thought the weather wasnt great the company was and to top it off we got fish.
