Wexford Bass 03-10-08

#1 Post by Danny M. »

People:Myself Carpets & Pat

Duration:8pm- 1:00am

Tide:over the top

Weather: nice surf & Warm

Bait: Lug, Razor, Squid

Rigs:2 hook flappers 3/0/40 & 3/0 Pennel Pulleys

Results:Me 3 Bass & 1 Flounder
Carpets 4 Bass & 1 Flounder & 1 L.S.D.
Pat 3 Bass

Report:
We went and dug the lug after work, they proved to be fairly scarce, we met up with Carpets later and headed off to target Bass. Arrived on location, took a look at the condition of the water which had Bass written all over it for this mark. :D
Went on our usual marathon trek up to the mark and set up. I had the first lug bait in the water while the light was fading at about 80 yard range. Turned to set up my second rod and wallop my other rod gets hammered :P A lovely fat little Bass comes in a short time later to say hello.Took a picture and sent him on his way and recast, again the bait gets hammered but I got a dose of premature and struck too early  missed fish.
By this stage the two lads had baits in the water, and were getting good bites but no hook ups. Carpets Sent out a full Calmari Squid and played the waiting game. Pat broke in his new Tip Tornado Lite with a Bass at close range, which put a fair smile on his face.
I got the second rod in the water with a 2 4/0 hook paternoster for the craic, and during the course of the night I lost easily over 10 Bass on it  :x there was a lot of language used on that mark I tell ye!
I got a second on the pulley which knocked the rod of the stand, and Pat got another soon after, bites were comming thick and fast.
Carpets knocked out his first Bass off the night to his delight and soon followed with another. Things calmed down for a period and the red bull was broke out and the boys lstened to me give out about my 2 hook trace
Then out of the calmness Carpets whole squid got annilated by what I can only imagine was a monster of a Bass, wallop , Carpets set the drag and struck, rod bent into something fairly energetic, he got about 6 turns on him and the fish was gone :(. The fish had the squid in his mouth and dropped it, the pennel didnt penetrate this time!
A short while after Carpets had another Bass on, battled him to with in about 10 yards of dry land, fish went ballistic and his pulley snaped !!!! fish gone..... We have never seen that before ....Carpets want happy to say the least
A couple of more fished arrived and the fishing died off for the last couple of hours with the falling tide.
For my last cast of the night I blasted out a lug bait for the craic 100yards + :D and was rewarded with another Bass, not a Bad way to finish the night off.

We found out later that 4 people were fishing up from us only had 1 bass between them

Until next time 8)

Couldn't agree more, over two years in 2000 2001 myself and two of my buddies fished nearly every stretch of beach from Brittas down to Kilmore, strangely enough the girls we were all seeing at the time have long since departed

Great session lads.

The lug seem to have got scarce around here in the last week, very thinly spread out so a lot of digging for a poor return.
I think all the bass must have eaten them  , plenty about this weekend
