best location for flatties

#1 Post by sjw »

I am relatively new to this and was wondering where the best places in Counties Antrim and L'Derry are for flatties? I particularly enjoy eating these but don't take away anything under 12 inches.

Thanks very much.

the beaches around Portstewart and Benone should throw up a few. Strip of mackerel and lug would do.

to be honest the matches are mostly fished catch mesure and release now, and have been up here for some time now ,so most fish are returned shortly after being caught further up or down the beach from the comp.the days of keeping them in a bucket till the end of the comp are now nearly over so as little harm as possible is done to the fish and most are returned to fight again another day.but that said you cant stop anyone from keeping a few to eat !!!

that is simply UNTRUE ,there is a legal size limit set for all fish to count in a comp, nearly all opens run are under the IFSA rules which state all flatfish have to be 250MM or above to count in a comp, which is well above palm size.and as for mesure and release it was introduced to save any wastless killing of fish and conserve the numbers of fish.

measure and release was brought in by 99% percent of the clubs out there because we didnt want to be killing fish for weight ins,,
if your so concerned about these comps go have a look when there been fished and see the respect, and care the fish will be given, rather than rant on about it,,,
