bloody foreland

#1 Post by fergal »

People: Me and Rab

Duration: 2.00 - 8.00 pm

Tide: HW at 7.30 pm i think

Weather: wet and windy up to about 4 then very nice light wind and sun

Bait: rag and mackerel

Rigs: 3/0 and 4/0 2 hook paternosters and spinning black/red jellyworms

Results: 3 ballan wrasse, 2 three bearded rocklings four pollock and 1 conger

fished a new spot for me and the mate round bloody foreland in donegal. we had planned to head out to innishbofin for the weekend fishing but bad forecasts on RTE had us canceling that even though my fishing weather sites said it would be wet then dry in the afternoon. turns out my sites were right and RTE was wrong. ah well the fishing turned out good anyway. a mixture of rag and mack was used on the beachcasters and we were both into fish on the first cast. a wrasse for Rab and a double hookup for me with a wrasse and a three bearded rockling

the fishing continued on with these spicies then just as Rab was heading up to the car for some smoke the tri-pod nearly got pulled in. i caught the rods just in time and called Rab back down. he took over the fight of what was obviously a decent fish. at this stage Rab was using a clipped down 2-hook pulley type rig with mack and rag. the two hooks were both hooked perfectly into the bottom jaw of this conger. they were fine wire hooks and probably wouldn't have held if it was just one hook.

of course i made up some proper conger rigs straight away but we didn't hit any more congers.
the sun came out and the wind died down so we tried a bit of jellyworm spinning with a drilled bullet running above a two foot mono trace. the pollock came regularly and ranged from about 1lb up to 4lbs. all in all a nice day out with a respectable catch
