pollock or coalie?

Some help needed to i.d. a fish caught last night :oops: , pollock or coalie???

coalfish...

the best way to distinguish the difference between the two species are:

1: the lateral line on a coalfish is straighter whereas in the pollock it starts high up the back and then curves down and straightens out again.

2:the lower jaw on the pollock protrudes out past the upper jaw, with coalfish they both are the same legth

3:colouration, a coalfish is usually duller with greys blues and blacks whereas pollock can have golds greens and browns

No legend, got plenty of them off Wicklow Harbour earlier in the year, also off Bray Harbour. Got a thornie with him though,,,,to add to the list :wink: :lol:
