Carrigaholt Pier 2/01/2005

#1 Post by Dave_B »

Fished Carrigaholt Pier from about 5.30pm with high tide around 9.30pm.
Bait used: Mackeral + Sandeel
Wind was really howling at points ( rods, tripod's nearly blown off the pier )
Started off with a whiting in the first few minutes, then all went quiet for about an hour when we landed a doggie. We then had two conger come off at the pier wall ( both a good size ) we also had another 2 whiting and lost a thornback of about 8lbs at the pier wall.
The wind made bite indication very difficult.

I need to have a chat with Dave about his complete lack of descriptive prose in his report.
Nowhere did he mention
a) The howling gale that removed eyebrows and pimples
b) The driving rain-horizontally opposing the forces of nature
c) The relentless biting cold
d) The amazing absence of fish

In reality, we did lose either 2 big conger, or the same big conger twice. It was amazing the bend it made in my poker stick of a conger rod.We only fished for the conger after watching it surface beside the pier under the lights. Bloody big one too.

How Dave guffawed when lost his personal best thornback too. I think I helped with a convincing "I didnt see it, did you?"

Still, a new year , a filthy night and we didnt blank
Happy new year all!!!!!
