Little Killary Galway 26.07.08
People: myself, corbyeire & a friend
Duration: 18:30 - 04:00
Tide: Low Rising then Dropping
Weather: Lovely Summers evening wind S turning E later F1-2
Bait: Mackerel, Squid, Sandeel, Razor, Peeler
Rigs: Various
Results: Thornback Ray, Conger, Bullhuss, Dogfish, Mackerel, Pollack, Whiting
Report: Decided to try Little Killary having not fished it in a while. I was tying up some rigs when i got a txt from corbyeire to see if i was going fishing so arrangements made I headed off to Killary. Arrived at the mark to find 3 people fishing so set up to the left fished there for about an hour or so without much success. Then corbyeire arrived a quick catch up then back to fishing. The other 3 people packed up so we set up in the middle where they had been and were soon into fish corbyeire was first in with a doggie followed by a whiting. We started to do a quick sweep of the mark picking up bottles cans rig wrappers hooks line etc etc   there were also quite a few ray carcesses on he rocks and a couple of small pollack thrown there too!! If people keep leaving this mark in the state we found it i'd say it won't be long before access is cut off  We were picking up a lot of doggies and corbyeire was picking off whiting regularly i clipped on a float rig again and had it in close enough picked up a mackerel followed by a pollack the doggies were still coming at a decent rate still no sign of any ray. Corbyeire had broken down one of his rods and was in one last cast mode when he got nailed serious bend in the rod has to be a ray we said i scrambled down the rocks waiting for it to appear out of the depths when just at the edge of the weed and rocks it dived again for the bottom some more pumping and winding and he resurfaced i caught hold of him then quick photo and corbyeire brought him back to the waters edge to watch him swim off back to the bottom. Corbyeire left shortly afterwards and I "decided to give it an other hour" bouyed up by the the sight of the ray. Fished on till 04:00 still taking doggies managed to pick up a couple of whiting and then happy days a conger (strap) first one this year and on the last cast a huss. No ray for me but i was happy out with the conger and the huss even though both were small enough. It was nice fishing with Brian again arrangements have been made for an East coast session soon enough
Corbyeire: numerous doggies & whitting (not sure of exact count Brian can confirm later) and a 47cm Thorback ray 4.75lbs
Myself: 15 doggies 2 whiting, 2 pollack, 1 strap conger 67cm, 1 bullhuss, 1 mackerel
Friend: 5 doggies

good session alright salty
had 4 whiting, one in particular was about the size of the bait i didnt know he was on at all!
1 was decent enough that i thought it was a big mack the way it fought - funny little fish
had 5 dogs - was impressed with the general size of them - 2 of them fought strongly - think yourself and T found the same thing - it was interesting but we kept thinking we had ray on - but it turned out to be doggie!
place was a tip - noticed the farmer now has a wire wraped round the gate bolt - say the place is under severe pressure - and some people must be leaving the gate open etc.
a few bashers came down and must have given it only 2 or 3 casts - what are they expecting the fish to jump onto the bank for them
delighted with the ray - put in a good scrap and great to see him glide away at the waters edge - made my week!
we were worried that there are none left in the place!
the banter was good as always and those biscuits were perfectly timed i was fading badly
glad you clocked up another few species even if the ray didnt show in the end
:D

then there the 50 seater bus factor and the stop in the middle of the road rental car for a picture crowd
but and hour and a half should be enough
