Co. Limerick,rough ground mark, 25-July-2008

People:Me

Duration:4:20pm till 8.20pm

Tide: 17:10 (1.3m) 23:32 (4.3m)

Weather:westerly breeze with cloud that died off and sun came out

Bait:Mack, eel and squid

Rigs:pulleys rigs 4/0 and 2/0 penels

Results:Dog, ray in order 4.5lb, 8lb, 6lb, 3lb and 2lb

Report:I haven't been out the past two months for one reason or another so decided on somewhere reliable. I fished the gulley putting a bait into the center and tried to fish at distance but 80 yards to the left to avoid the reef that is 70 yards out from the gulley. I concentarted on one rod or the other depending on what was producing as pulling out of snags is time consuming

Had a bite straight off but lifted into heavy weight that got stuck after a few yards. After constant pressure for a few minutes the rig came moving again without the weight and the top hook was broken. Had the low tide run after that with no more bites. Had to put rigs close in to avoid tackle losses due to a wind backed tide with weed that would drag them into reefs.

After the low tide rip died down distance rod out again and had a doggy after 6:40pm to eel/squid followed by a ray to straight mackerel. No bites after that to the rod at distance.

Around 7:30 I had a good bite on my close in rod to a side of mackerel and whole squid in the center of the gulley that produced a mighty tussle with the ray going into weed several times and moving up and down in the tide. This weighed in at 8lbs followed straight after to a 6lb ray giving a better fight again and then the 3lber follwed to the same bait and tactics. I brought the distance rod in when I had time and landed the 2lb ray to eel. This brought me to after 8pm with no more bites and the hot part of the tide over I went home.
