People: myself and hugh cronin, vipers(t)d
Duration:long time
Tide:all
Weather: mostly overcast
Bait: lug, mac, sandeel, hardback
Rigs:floats pulley flappers
Results: 1 flounder, 1 dogfish, 1 pollack, 1 ballan, 1 corkwing
Report: not much to report only had planned this for a while and it didnt seem to matter at all in terms of results
first mark, on my tod, west of tralee was meant to get loads of ray - got a 28cm flounder after an hour on lug mack flapper
crabs were healthy had a spider
then i think i had a cuttlefish but he hit a rock on the way up - and dropped off - just remember the large eye looking at me
then that was it for 5 hours
then beach casting from midnight with the 2 lads later - viper got a bass second cast and hugh got one on the first
i missed 3 bites in a row and then got a dog well out that fought well - was sure it was a ray
things went quiet for myself and viper - as hugh got another bass a flounder and 3 pouting
me some very chatty people from the north there at 3am
stayed on til about 4.30-5 am but no joy
then to a bridge mark for "bass like mackies" - after 3 hours and the turn of the tide - it was time for bed at 8 am
guess i was bringing my infamous blank technique for bass down the country
about 2pm went and got hardbacks - down to a rock mark " big wrasse chance of triggers"
put out a few kilos of chum
nothing doing over the fill and turn of the tide - were heading soon
had a few rotten bottom rigs out think had a few conger bites - but no heavier traces so lost on striking in - gave that up
had a discarded plastic bottle fishing mack strip - a tiny pollack hooked himself - blank saved small mercies
were still going - but decided to change to lug on the float at 20ft - got a corkwing
then more lug and pulled in the fish of the 2 days a large ballan +40cms
happy out
then hugh got one a bit smaller on crab
chap and his kids turned up so we ran away
had a chippy and then a pint to wash it down
the planned evening session soon was forgotten for another type of one
kicked someones arse at darts and pool
truly showing a wasted youth
pity about the results but good craic

Welldone Brian on the decent sized Ballan, you need to get the photo up.
Bad luck on not getting a better return for the time you put in, seems the east coast is the way to go
Have you ever used fresh sandeel???
I was up with my bait man collecting my fresh peeler this morning and he had some in, thought I'd give 'em a go, I asked for a tenners worth and he gave me approx 35-40 eels....excellent value....
I'll not be needing that many for the weekend, so i presume I can wrap some up and freeze 'em ?!
