Which 15lb Flurocarbon ?

#1 Post by JOHN LYNCH »

Any reccommendations for a good 15lb Flurocarbon line. One that doesn't kink when a knot is tied ?

Cheers

Try SeaGuar John. Very nice Fluro. Frog hair is excellent but very expensive. Seaguar comes in 100M spools for €20ish

The club sponsor Henrys Tackle Does various line strenghts. Give him a bell, he'll post it off to you.

Cheers for the replies lads, have heard about the frog hair and seaguar lines alright. will do a bit of research on the sightfree.

Hugh, that frog hair seems to get good reviews alright, expensive stuff all the same. What strenghts are u getting it in? Sunday was though going alright, only seen 1 counter in the first dozen pegs and that was a fish just over the 20cm mark and only a handfull of undersized.

Hey John,

I just checked one of my spools. It's 200 Yards for €20. I don't think you'll do better than that for a good quality Fluro.

Sightfree is by Airflo and unless you are looking for 20lb or over, IMO stay away from the stuff. It is very brittle at 15lb or below.

It's not bad Eric, but I've had a few too many problems with it previously and I'm one of those Trout Anglers. I've switched to Froghair for my trout fishing, but it's just too expensive for sea fishing where you need much more of the stuff. I hear the newer Airflo sightfree is better, but once bitten twice shy.

Stick with Seaguar. They are the only company in the world that make their own resin. Aparently, they have ove 40 patents in flurocarbon line production. That's plenty for me. I used to import spools of the stuff from Japan. I'm glad Henry has started to sell the stuff. It saves me a fortune.

Hi John,

I left after the first cast on Sunday and went home - sounds like I made the right choice!

Seagur all the way for the reasons mentioned in the above post. However I find the Varivas Fluoro available from Veals in 15lb excellent and diameter wise I it can't be beaten.

Flurocarbon

Used Seaguar all last year and found it excellent. However, used the same spool (15lb) this year and it kept breaking on me. It must have perished somewhat. Lost a good bass last week over it :x .

I think the Seaguar that Henry sells in 200m spools is a running line ?

The Seaguar Ace flouro carbon for leaders and snood line comes in 50m spools. The frog hair seems to be excellent stuff but it seems hard to get in anything higher than 12lb.

Think I will go with the Seaguar Ace flouro and give the varivas a go aswell.

Thanks for replies.

Ye Have me there John. I use it for snoods and Rig Bodys anyway. I'm not sure what the difference is.

The Varivas Fluoro 15lb is excellent and very thin as mentioned above. I also use the new Stren Fluoro 30lb for heavier fishing, boat rays etc - £10 for 100m - this is fantastic stuff. It never kinks and is extremely abrasion resistant. I would recommend this every time. Haven't used other Bs but I am sure it would be excellent.

I'm also using the Yo Zuri stuff myself and have found it very good. Its got a slight pink tint to it which if you believe all the blurb helps it to double the invisibility of the line. I'm not sure if I believe that but it knots well and is strong.

I've been using the new Berkely Professional (gold packet, not the vanish) all season as a lure leader. Zero failures so far and it's seen a lot of use.
