East Cork Beach - 11th July 2008

#1 Post by RockHunter »

People: Me

Duration: 9.30 pm to 2.00 am

Tide: HW at 1.00 am

Weather: Calm, very light southwesterly breeze, mild, mostly clear with one 10 minute heavy shower

Bait: lug, razor sandeel

Rigs: 3/o pennel pulley, 2/0 two hook flapper

Results: 5 dogfish

Report: Headed to an East Cork beach after digging a fresh supply of lug worm. Unfortunately there was a very weak surf compared to the previous night.

I had one bite before dark - the fish took a chunk out of the bait but wasn't hooked.

After dark I was getting a few more bites, then got the first dogfish. A succession of dogfish followed, usually when I had the lug bait tipped with a slice of sandeel. They left the lug/razor baits alone. If I swiched both rods to just sandeel I could have probably sent the entire night hauling in dogfish - they seem to be real suckers for a bit of sandeel.
