Results:
me; 3 pollock, 4 ballan wrasse, 2 corkwing wrasse(male and female)
Mark; 14 pollock, 2 corkwing wrasse(1 male ,1 female)




Report: With plenty of rag left over from Sundays trip to Brittas, I decided to take a trip to Dalkey and try for wrasse. I had told Shamoo0804 (Mark) that I was thinking of going and he was there about an hour when I arrived. He was well into pollock, and they were coming thick and fast. I set up as quickly as i could (i'm all thumbs :oops: ) and was delighted to catch a small pollock, new species for the year :lol: :lol: . The sea was quite choppy and there was a bit of weed about but it didnt cause us too many problems. As the tide rose we moved up just in time to avoid a soaking :roll: . Mark was pulling pollock in to beat the band and was soon into double figures. A lesson was learned the hard way when we were soaked by a heavy shower. Mark had a light jacket but no waterproofs and I had a rainjacket but no waterproof trousers so the water just rolled down onto my jeans :cry: . Better to have and not want than want and not have etc etc :? . Anyways sunny skies soon returned and I had a small ballen wrasse next, followed soon after by another ballen , a bit bigger. As usual, I had a few good bites from decent fish which were lost when the fish dived for cover, so we knew that there were bigger fish out there. Later on as the tide went out i saw the rocky ground i was fishing over . I had plenty of bait, lug, squid, and rag but only the rag worked. I was delighted to add another species to my list, a male corkwing wrasse ( identified by Mark as I was a bit confused in my excitement :roll: ), followed by a female corkwing. I had 8 fish now, 3 pollock and 5 wrasse and was feeling well chuffed with myself even though I was cold and soaked and Mark was at about no. 14 or 15 :lol: . I was thinking about going home soon (Last cast mode :wink: ) and decided to try belting out a 2 hook flapper in the hope of a doggie or a flat. There seemed to be a bit of clean ground out further and i thought if i retrieved it quickly i might have a chance of not losing it in the rough ground. I cast out and soon after felt a small pull on the line . I left it for a while and struck and thought i was stuck in a snag, but as it started to give i knew i had a fish on. I just kept the rod tip high and kept reeling in and was surprised to catch the biggest Ballen wrasse of the session, 38 cms, happy days, and on a two hook flapper , rag and squid. With Mark catching a couple more pollock and 2 ballen wrasse we decided it was time to go. I had a couple of new species off the list and Mark had put the blank at the weekend well behind him. Hello to Aidan who's just joined the site and was fishing there also. As usual all help with I.D. ing the fish is appreciated,

The fish came in spells, like the heavy showers :cry: , at times the 2 floats were beside each other but guess who kept pulling in the pollock (pollack :?: ), a clue :arrow: it wasnt me :roll: .

Welldone on the 2 new species Dave, glad you added them to the list for this year, and a special welldone on the biggest fish of the session.

Thats 2 wrasse I've seen taken at distance on a ledgered rig now :roll: at that mark.
