21/06/08 Co. Down wrasse and pollack

#1 Post by marshpike »

This report was done by a mate on my forum, I just copied and pasted, I looked like cr@p cause I was carrying a heavy hang over....

PEOPLE:- me and our glorious leader

DURATION:- 11am - 4:30pm

SPECIES:- wrasse and pollock

WEIGHT:- wrasse to 1.5lbs or 2lbs, pollack to roughly 4lbs

METHOD:- three and two hook flappers

BAIT:- lug and peelers

the plan was to hit the tope today but the weather gods put an end to that! flat calm this morning turning into 25-30mph on shore easterly winds and a wee drop of rain. actually it was torrential rain.
we fished two hours either side of high water. bites were immediate on the quality lug worm our glorious leader dug this morning. every cast was met with a rattle on the tip of the rod but the fish were extremly hard to connect with. robbie started things off with a nice wrasse around the pound mark. like all wrasse it was beautifully marked.

shortly after robbie got another hit.
this turned out to be a pollock of around 4lbs and a wrasse of around 2lbs

the weather just kept throwing the shite at us and as slack water arived at high tide the bites dried up.
the fish turned back on again when the tide turned again and i was soon into a wrasse. i would be lucky if it reached a pound but it saved me from blanking.

there is only so much rain and wind a man can tolerate and we packed up about an hour later.
soaked but happy that the days fishing was salvaged.

Well done on sticking it out in that weather! It looked like it was worth the soaking.
