shannon monster!
People:me
Duration:1:30 - 4:30 pm
Tide:lw 3:30
Weather:flat calm with plenty of sun
Bait:mackerel & squid
Rigs:pennels clipped 2/0,3/0,4/0
Results:1 ray 4lbs
1 conger 25lbs
Report:Started fishing in good anticipation of a few thornies..Conditions were perfect, nice big tide good rigs & bait. For the first hour or so i missed two very timid bites, thinking back to a recent session where the same thing happened I decided to strike the next bite as soon as i saw it (I usually give the ray a minute or so to mouth the bait) this worked a treat as i managed a nice 4lb ray...baited up again and cast out as hopes were high again but spent the next hour looking at static rod tips, as i began to lose interest(normally id have 3-4 ray at this stage given the conditions) i went to have a look at the shoreline at lw as you do and arrived back to be greeted to another timid knockin type bite...small ray i said to myself so i struck straight away....at first i had dead weight that was slowly coming in..then a few nods which got me thinking nice 7-8lb ray...then 5mins later & 50 yards out the nods began to progress into real thumping wallops..conger starting entering my mind...still slowly coming the last 20 yards were like being hooked into a panzer tank...rod arched into a C curve my poor 6500 getting well and truly pounded and my nerves in s*it...finally it surfaced ,holy s*it ..spent the next 5 minutes trying to beach the beast eventually managing it(dont know how the 30lb snood stood up to it?)..a spectator who was out for a walk kindly took a few pics on me fone....new pb for me... my dodgy scales read 25lbs but the eel was 6 inches across the back so i think it may well have been above 30....I havent got a big conger in a year or so now i have forgotten what animals they are...plus the fact that he made a clear snap at my thumb as i cut the snood line..never jumped back as quick  I packed it in after the eel was retuned although i could have fished for another hour i didnt bother as the ray ishing was poor enough all day and i wasnt going to top that fish ...what a day ..a huss would have been nice though
