bray harbour/killiney, 27/may/08

#1 Post by corbyeire »

People:myself and shamoo

Duration: 7-11

Tide: on the ebb

Weather: overcast windy NE but managed to avoid the rain

Bait: mack, squid, bad rag/lug

Rigs: 3 hook flappers pulleys

Results: 1 flounder, 2 rockling

Report: headed to bray - couldnt get over the swell there just after high tide

cast out against the wind and started setting up to drop one over the side - could see the weed on already

got the lighter rod out - but the swells started to take it away - 5 oz no good!

then decided to reel in first one - behind a load of weed was a flounder just about a counter

in the mean time the other rod had snagged - started to yank it out - obviously gave it too much and the rod broke - oh well it owed me nothing after 7-8 years of service!!!

carried on with the other rod but the weed was in charge - a couple of trees were brought down by the river and were swirling around the outer harbour wall - very dangerous!

no more bites noticed among rafts of weed - had to pack up after about an hour

headed to kiliney to see could we pick up some flats

was so calm in comparison!

seemed to be getting weed with the long rod - and snags to the left of the carpark

the rod in close was getting cleaned too

was told its not known for crabs - but something was busy

shamoo then pulled in 2 rockling to save his blank - we battled on but as the tide went out this reef got closer and we started to loose hooks and all

about 11 gave up - very proficient crabs would have thought we would have gotten something out of that reef if there was anything about

maybe we needed the fresh rag - maybe it was the NE - who knows

Fair play getting a few fish was pretty miserable yesterday.

Not too much to add really from me, a pretty quiet session all in all :(

Bray was horrid, but in fairness, Killiney was quite peaceful, very small, gentle surf and very little wind.
