HOWTH

#1 Post by hush1 »

Thinking of fishing Howth this weekend...anyone any tips on where to launch ie if it is easy round there?

Just want to grap a few macks and perhaps a trip to Kish light house.

Thoughts?

Fished there Bank Holiday Monday from 9am till 3pm.

No Mackeral showing, tried around Balscadden and out on the banks but nothing. Had some frozen stuff with us and anchored up for the day (in that freezing fog), plenty of Doggies and some Flats but it was nice to get out all the same.

The slip can be busy at times with PWC's and all other sorts, so get there early if you want to get parking and on the water quickly.

It's a nice trip to the Kish but just watch for the HSS coming in (check time tables), she can come up on you fairly quickly.

The slip over beside the yacht club is the only place to launch in Howth man, there's a comp there on Sunday alright , but if you launch after 10am or before 8.30am you should miss the busiest time on the slip ,check in for the comp is 9am. Fished howth last Monday too, was at the kish, plenty of doggies, small dabs, whiting, small haddock, and a grey gurnard. Not great fishin' out there, although the water was the colour of s*!t, so that may explain it.You might fare better this weekend though, weather's been settled all week. 8) .
