To strike, or not to strike?

What is the answer? Is it a complete waste of time because of slack and stretch in the line? Are sharp hooks and proper bait presentation enough?

i suppose it depends on the type of fishing u r doing, but i would always strike to some extent. just make sure when u do strike that u r in contact with the fish running up the beach if u have to before striking!!!!!!!!!1
