Berkley gulp squid.

#1 Post by anthony2carr »

Has anyone used any of the gulp products? Can they be fished just like normal bait, or do they need to be kept moving? Would the boat drift be enough?

I have caught plenty of Pollack coalies and cod on the drift using Berkley Gulp sandeel and sand worm, they are very effective.

I used the Berkley Gulp Ragworm once, some years ago. I gilled it over a wreck. It caught a pollock each drift for 3 drifts, then stopped catching. Change it for a fresh one, catch another 3 pollock on 3 drifts.

The baits wasn't badly battered and chewed up, so it's swimming action would have been the same. I could only conclude that it was the scent additive getting washed out that stopped it catching.

Whether that scent additive is enough on it's own to catch when fished static, I dunno.

Gulp works for sure! The best is sandeel, but I use rag, lug, sqid(small), You have to play with rod, to add some live to your lure.
It is not a matter of upper or lower class, but of being up a while and down a while...
