Five finger strand donegal

Has any one fished this beach before headin up to it in 2 week's time to fish it...any help on specie's, bait and other bit's and bob's would be a great help...

hi jonny, the fishery's board have been hitting that beach, also the lagg and isle of doagh, asking to see your license, we had a dispute with them last year about this, for it is the sea that we were fishing. their answer was.....if your gear is set up in a way that you could catch game fish ie; seatrout then you need a license to fish these beach's........we were told to leave now or they would confiscate our gear, back on the beach next day they came down to us again, with intentions of takeing our gear, but this time we had the license :lol:

sandeel is a good bet as is lug, have had seatrout, flounder and whiting off the strand, on strong tides it can rip through and be hard to hold bottum

You were bluffed. There's no way on earth to tell the difference between a sea-trout rig and a bass rig.

ffs, this is a right piss-boiler.

...that was one of the points of the argument that i had with the fishery's officer, but no matter what i said he was having none of it. next day before i paid for my license i phoned two different tackle shops, and was told by both of them that i needed the license to fish them spots. i personally disagree with this, but at the end of the day, they visit them beach's and ask anyone thats fishing for their license. if you have none they threaten to take your gear....

Are any of you in the IFSA? I've raised the question of Sea Angling Representation in the NRFB with the Ulster Provincial Council. This reminds me to chase it up with them.

There is a rep sitting on the Northern Region Fishery Board that's supposed to represent Sea Angler's interests. It's about time Sea Anglers reclaimed this position for themselves.

Tanglerat, the fishery officer that stat stoped us for the license had Northern Region Fishery Board printed on the side of his landrover, and produced his ID when asked......

I wouldnt bother going up there, Long drive for a few flounder...The locals dont fish there so that says it all really, And the boys about there know there stuff

I've spoken with Paul and I wish to make something very clear: He cannot answer questions re fishing licences etc. There's no point in asking him at this stage.

However, I was refering to the Sea Angling Rep on the Northern Regional Fishery Board, the position of which the UPC were going to investigate.

Exactly what type of Authority do these guys have when patroling the beach? I agree with permits etc for river fishing as there's a limited amount of species that you could be aiming for but at sea.....? & as stated above it would be hard to differenciate between Bass or Sea Trout gear? By jez he'd need to be a brave tight boy before he'd think about taking gear off me.

Paddy you would get alot of lads specifically fishing that area for sea trout, using sandeels on light tackle. I think thats where the fishery board are coming from in when doing their inspections.

in that area sandeel is also good for the flats and whiting, which light gear is used for too, so it will be a difficult one for the fishery board

That seems to be the official line, pete. However, reports comming from anglers would indicate some overzealousness at the very least.

Pete I dont disagree with you, but to draw a comparrison, that would be like the police/Garda lifting someone because they look like they might be capable of comitting a crime.
Sandeel has to be one of the most popular baits that a sea angler can use so if two guys are fishing side by side, one using Mac, the other using sandeel, is it fair to assume that one is targeting Sea Trout, while the other is just trying his luck for whatever might come along?
You could be standing there fishing for Great white sharks using sandeel, the entire world might no you havn't a chance, but it doesnt make you guilty of anything other than stupidity.
