Fishing trip to Cork

#1 Post by Conor P »

Hi everybody

I'm going on a fishing trip to Cork (probably) and would probably be around skibereen, clonakilty or Rosscarbery.
Any suggestioons?
At the moment we're probably going to be near the Long Strand. Any suggestions about there?

Thanks for help.

Hi Conor,

Have a look here,

I use these maps and find them excellent...most of the marks are signposted so you will know where to go. The estuary marks at Courtmac, Ring and Rosscarbery are easy to fish around low water and at that time of the year you have a good chance of getting bass, flats, giltheads, etc....enjoy !

Conor,
Longstrand and surrounding beaches should provide flounder and possible bass if conditions are good with a surf running. Razor Fish can fish very well here. However note of warning, the Long Strand is a DANGEROUS beach especially when there is a surf running. If it is calm then fishing at dusk to avoid the crowds will produce plenty of dogs. Its a deep beach and I know people who have got huss off it.
There are plenty of Rock marks from the Galley Head back to the Seven Heads for mackerel, pollock warsse etc. which are bursting with fish in July Aug. However you will need an adult with you as these are deep water marks.
Courtmacsherry is also another great mark and there are plenty of posts on the site with info on this area.
Good luck and enjoy your holiday.
